Nostalgic old culture is once again in the limelight as “emotional” and “new”. Wouldn’t you like to go back in time to those days and visit towns that remind you of the Showa period, nostalgic coffee shops and candy stores? We will introduce spots that can be enjoyed by those who know the Showa period as well as those who do not.
Ikaho Toy and Doll Automobile Museum
One of the largest amusement spots in Japan representing Japan! Nostalgic toys, dolls, and teddy bears are displayed by theme. This popular theme park has a full range of attractions, including a candy store alley that recreates the streets of the Showa period and an automobile museum that displays classic cars and famous cars of yesteryear. This is a large complex museum that can satisfy everyone from couples and families to the elderly.
Asakusa Hanayashiki
Asakusa Hanayashiki is the oldest amusement park in Japan and has a charming retro atmosphere. The park features Japan’s oldest existing roller coaster, which was created in 1953, and a haunted house that was introduced in 1984, making it an attractive amusement park that has a long history but has not faded away.
Urayasu City Folk Museum
Urayasu City Folk Museum is a museum that recreates a Showa-era retro townscape in Urayasu City, Chiba Prefecture. Admission is free, and the museum is recommended for those who like old houses and Showa-era retro. Inside the museum, visitors can actually enter the building to see what Urayasu looked like around 1952 when it was a fishing town, view materials related to the fishing industry, and visit a private house that recreates the streets of a fisherman’s town. On Saturdays and Sundays, a candy shop is sometimes open in the outdoor exhibition area, Sangen Nagaya.
