Plum blossoms in season and in bloom
The best time to view the plum blossoms in 2025 is from late February to mid-March as usual. This year, too, Kairakuen’s plum blossoms will be in full bloom and the garden will be filled with a sweet fragrance. Visitors can enjoy both early and late-blooming varieties of ume over a long period of time.

There are many places to see and enjoy plum blossoms in Kairakuen. Especially recommended is the view from Kobun-tei. Kobun-tei is a two-story, three-story wooden building, and from the third floor you can enjoy a panoramic view of the beautiful plum blossoms in the garden.
There is a restaurant in Kairakuen, named “Mito Mon no Mae (In front of Mito Gate)”,which offers many Japanese dishes and sweets. There you can also enjoy very beautiful Japanese Garden view. This time we tried “Kurunji (pressed croissant, Korea origin sweets) with vanilla ice cream and a shake of sweet potato, which is speciality of Ibaraki.
