Did you know that there is a Japanese tuna brand called Kindai Tuna that has succeeded in complete aquaculture? Japan’s aquaculture technology, which is said to be the most advanced in the world, has evolved to the point where fully cultured bluefin tuna is now being produced with a stable quality that rivals that of natural tuna, with a good fat content and aroma.
Currently, however, Kindai tuna is not distributed nationwide, and there are only a limited number of restaurants in the city center where you can eat it. You can enjoy such rare tuna at Shionomisaki Kanko Tower.
What is Shionomisaki Kanko Tower ?
Located in Kushimoto-cho, Higashimuro-gun, Wakayama Prefecture, the observatory tower stands at Shionomisaki, the southernmost point of Honshu, jutting out into the Pacific Ocean. On a fine day, the observatory offers a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean and the horizon, allowing visitors to experience the roundness of the earth. In addition to the stores, the restaurant with an ocean view overlooking the Pacific Ocean offers a menu of local specialties unique to Kushimoto, such as Kindai Tuna.

As mentioned above, due to its production volume, Kindai Tuna is not yet available everywhere in Japan. At Shionomisaki Kanko Tower, we use Kindai Tuna directly from the Kii-Oshima Fisheries Research Institute, which is carefully raised in an environment that takes care of the food and the environment in which the tuna is raised.
