Abukuma Caves (Tamura, Fukushima)

Abukuma Caves tour course is about 600 meters long, and there are about 300 steps inside the cave. The tour takes about 40 minutes, depending on how crowded it is. The cave is divided into several different courses, each of which offers its own sense of adventure.

If seeing the beauty of nature’s formations is not enough for you, head to the Irimizu Cave. The experience of caving through the narrow, dark underground space is truly an adventure! The dark and narrow paths are illuminated by the light, and the limestone caves are a unique experience that can be felt while knee-deep in the cold water. Irimizu Caves are located about 10 minutes by car from Abukuma Caves. Abukuma Kogen (highland) is a vast nature park far from the city, so the clear night sky is filled with stars. If you would like to enjoy this, the nighttime universe as well, please stay at the Hoshi no mura (Star Village) Fureai kan. It is located very close to the Irimizu limestone caves. If the weather is favorable, you may be able to see the starry sky as if it were pouring down.
